Trade & craftsman embroidery designs

Hammers, wrenches, saws and paint rollers: these trade and craftsman embroidery designs suit work shirts, caps, shop aprons and tool bags for carpenters, plumbers, electricians, painters and mechanics. Free tool motifs download as PES, JEF, EXP or VP3, and as DST for multi-needle shop machines. For a heavy canvas tool bag, use a 90/14 needle and float the bag on hooped adhesive stabilizer.

The tools are drawn as bold, readable shapes, some crossed or grouped like a small emblem, so they hold up on textured workwear and at small sizes on a cap. A hammer and a saw suit a carpenter, a wrench a plumber or a mechanic, a paint roller a painter, and a mix of tools suits anyone who builds and fixes things.

Workwear is tough on embroidery. Use polyester thread for its colorfast, bleach-resistant finish, cut-away on knit work shirts and a firm tear-away or cut-away on canvas and duck. Heavy items such as tool bags and coveralls are easier to float than to hoop, and on waterproof or coated jackets a sew-on patch avoids needle holes in the coating.

Home DIY motifs such as toolboxes are in the tool and DIY designs. Put a business name or a crew member's name under the tools with the monogram maker.

Frequently asked questions

Can I embroider on heavy canvas tool bags?

Yes, but they are hard to hoop. Float the bag on hooped adhesive tear-away or cut-away, use a 90/14 needle and slow the machine down for dense areas. Keep the sides and handles clear of the needle with clips or tape, and test on a canvas scrap first.

Can I add my company name to these designs for work shirts?

Yes. Type the name in the monogram maker, place it below the motif on your machine's editing screen and keep it to one or two short lines. Selling the stitched shirts or caps requires commercial rights, which come with selected plans.
