Convert VP3 to DST
Turn a Husqvarna Viking or Pfaff VP3 into a Tajima DST for an embroidery shop or a multi-needle machine. The stitches convert exactly; all of VP3’s colour information stays behind.

What carries over
Stitches, jumps and colour changes, at the exact size. VP3 trims become DST’s trim signal: three tiny jumps in place.
What doesn’t
Everything about colour. VP3 stores colour values, thread brands, catalogue numbers and descriptions; DST stores none of it. After converting, the tool shows the VP3’s colours in sewing order: copy them into your order for the shop. VP3 also allows longer stitches than DST’s 12.1 mm, so any longer stitch is split in two.
Which machines read DST
DST is the shared format of commercial machines from Tajima, Barudan, Happy, ZSK and SWF, and many home machines read it. Husqvarna Viking’s DESIGNER EPIC 3 and TOPAZ 65 and Pfaff’s creative icon models read DST too, but the DESIGNER JADE 35 and the creative ambition 640 read only VP3.
Size, hoops and stitch length
The size is unchanged. A split long stitch adds one extra needle point, which is rarely visible. Commercial sewing fields are large, so the hoop is seldom an issue.
If the DST file doesn’t sew right
- No trims at the shop: ask which jump count their machine treats as a trim; ours is three.
- The design sews in the wrong colours: commercial machines map colour changes to needles. Send the colour list.
- The shop asks for another format: many commercial machines also have their own format, such as Barudan’s U01. The converter writes U01 too.

Why convert VP3 to DST at all?
Because a shop’s machine almost certainly reads DST, while VP3 is a home-machine format.
Can I get the colours back later?
Not from the DST. Keep the VP3 and its colour list as your master copy.
Which colour list should I send with the DST?
The one the converter shows after converting: the VP3’s colours in sewing order, with their names when the file has them. Number them, because a DST only counts colour changes.
