Convert PES to VP3
Move a Brother or Baby Lock design to a Husqvarna Viking or Pfaff machine. VP3 is one of the richest embroidery formats, so this is one of the cleanest conversions there is: stitches, trims and colours all come along.

What carries over
Stitches, trims and colour changes convert one to one. VP3 stores a full colour value for every colour block, with room for a thread description and brand, so the PES colours arrive as they are instead of being snapped to another palette.
What doesn’t
Very little: Brother’s thumbnails and the PES hoop setting. Older PES files that hold only Brother palette numbers give the VP3 the colours of those Brother threads, without names.
Which machines read VP3
VP3 is the current format of Husqvarna Viking and Pfaff and of Singer’s newer models. Some machines read nothing else: the Husqvarna Viking DESIGNER JADE 35, the Pfaff creative ambition 640 and the Singer SE9150 to SE9185 load VP3 only. The newest flagships also read VP4 and still open VP3. bernette’s b70 DECO and b79 read VP3 as well.
Size, hoops and stitch length
The size doesn’t change. Husqvarna Viking and Pfaff hoops come in their own sizes, so compare the design with your machine’s hoop list; the viewer shows its exact width and height. VP3 allows long stitches, so nothing is split in this direction.
If the VP3 file doesn’t sew right
- The machine doesn’t show the file: check that it’s a .vp3 file and not still inside a ZIP. The transfer guide covers sticks and folders.
- No thread names: older PES files store only Brother palette numbers, so there were no names to carry over. The colours themselves are right.
PES to VP3: questions
Do Husqvarna Viking machines read PES?
Many current top models list PES among their formats (the DESIGNER EPIC 3 reads 15), but entry models like the DESIGNER JADE 35 read only VP3. VP3 works on all of them.
Should I convert to HUS instead?
No. HUS is the older Husqvarna Viking format. Current machines read VP3, and free tools, ours included, can read HUS but not write it.
