Baby embroidery designs

Baby embroidery designs for bibs, bodysuits and burp cloths: rattles, storks carrying a bundle, bottles and pacifiers in soft pastels. Free downloads sit next to premium designs, all in PES, JEF, DST, VP3 and EXP.

For newborn sizes, prefer the lighter, more open designs: a dense fill feels stiff on a tiny garment.

On a bodysuit, center the motif on the chest about two finger widths below the neckline, and check that only the front layer is hooped before you start. Hoop it together with a no-show mesh cut-away, or float the bodysuit on hooped mesh if the opening is too narrow, and finish with a soft fusible cover on the inside. Use 40 wt polyester thread, because baby things go through hot washes and stain treatments all the time.

Burp cloths and bibs are often cotton flannel, muslin or terry. Flannel and muslin take a light cut-away, while terry needs a water-soluble topping so the rattle's outline stays above the loops.

For a birth gift, combine one of these baby embroidery designs, such as a stork or a rattle, with the baby's name and birth date from the lettering maker. The 70 mm size fits a bib, and the 125 mm version suits the corner of a swaddle blanket. Sleepy moons and clouds for the baby's room are in the nursery designs.

Frequently asked questions

What stabilizer is best for baby bodysuits?

A no-show mesh cut-away, also sold as poly mesh. It is soft and light, stays in the garment and keeps the design from distorting as the knit stretches. Skip tear-away on bodysuits, since nothing supports the stitches once it is removed, and finish the inside with a soft fusible layer.

Can I embroider a baby's name and birth date?

Yes. Create the name and date with our monogram and lettering maker, then stitch them under a stork, rattle or other baby motif on a blanket, pillow or keepsake hoop. Keep small lettering at least 6 mm (1/4 in) tall so the satin stitches stay clean and readable.
