City embroidery designs

Skylines, taxis, coffee to go and street scenes: these city embroidery designs bring urban life to tees, hoodies, tote bags and commuter bags. Download the free skylines and street scenes as PES, JEF, VP3 or DST. A skyline is wider than it is tall, so center it on the chest and check its width against your hoop before stitching.

City motifs capture everyday urban details rather than one famous building: a skyline, a taxi, a coffee cup to go, a corner of a busy street. They suit city lovers, daily commuters and anyone who has just moved to a new place. Coffee cups and taxis are compact enough for a cap side or a pocket, while a skyline needs the full width of a chest or a tote.

Skylines are wide and low, with many small shapes side by side, so a stable base matters. On sweatshirts and hoodies, use cut-away, and on a brushed surface add water-soluble film on top. On canvas totes and commuter bags, a medium tear-away is enough, and polyester thread copes with daily wear.

Famous towers and bridges are in the landmark designs, and cups and mugs for coffee fans in the coffee and tea designs. More cars for a street scene drive through the car designs.

Frequently asked questions

Can I stitch a skyline across the front of a sweatshirt?

Yes. Mark the center of the chest about 3 to 4 inches below the neckline on an adult sweatshirt, fuse a cut-away to the back and hoop without stretching the knit. Roll the sleeves and the back out of the way, then use the trace function to confirm the width.

Which size works best for a skyline on a tote bag?

Take the 125 mm size for a tote bag or a sweatshirt and keep 70 mm for a pocket or a pouch, because skylines are wide and full of small shapes that need room to stay readable. The larger size fits a 5x7 hoop.
