Boat & ship embroidery designs

Sailboats, tugboats, ocean ships and folded paper boats: these boat and ship embroidery designs are made for nautical cushions, beach towels and kids' tees. Several are free, and each one downloads in PES, VP3, JEF, EXP, XXX or DST. Tip: embroider the front panel of a cushion before you sew the cover together, so you can hoop it flat.

Our boat and ship embroidery designs range from a paper boat a child could fold to a sailboat on open water, a busy tugboat and a big ship. Kayaks, surfboards and paddleboards are in the water sports designs, and waves and palm islands for the background in the beach and ocean designs.

Each type suits a different room. Paper boats and tugboats are made for the nursery and kids' tees, while sailboats in navy, white and red threads fit a coastal living room, a guest bathroom towel or a lake house cushion.

Scale matters with boats: a 70 mm paper boat is right for a baby bib or a sleeve, a tugboat at 95 mm fills a kids' tee, and a sailboat shows its sails best at 125 mm on a cushion front or the end of a beach towel.

Frequently asked questions

Are anchors and ship wheels in this category?

No. Anchors, ship wheels, life rings and rope knots are symbols rather than boats, so they are in the nautical and anchor designs. Combine an anchor with a sailboat from this section for a full nautical set on towels and cushions.

How do I embroider a ready-made cushion cover?

Take out the insert, open the zipper or the envelope back and hoop only the front panel, with a tear-away under cotton or a cut-away under linen and loose weaves. Keep the back panel folded out of the way and feel under the hoop that only one layer is caught. Fold the cover in quarters to find the center.
