Beach towels are thick terry, so lay a water-soluble topping on the front to keep the stitches above the loops, with a tear-away or cut-away underneath. Center the design on one short end, just above the woven border, so it shows when the towel hangs over a chair or a rail. Polyester thread is the better match here, since pool towels meet chlorine.
A single shell at 70 mm fits a towel corner or the pocket of a cover-up. A palm island or a sandcastle scene needs more room for its details: take the 125 mm size for a canvas beach bag or a cushion for a beach house.
Frequently asked questions
Can I stitch a beach design on a swimsuit or rash guard?
We do not recommend it. Swimwear fabric stretches a lot, and a filled design turns that spot stiff, so it can pull and feel uncomfortable. Put the design on the cover-up, the beach towel or the swim bag instead, where the fabric is stable and the embroidery lasts much longer.
Can I add a beach house name or a short saying?
Yes. Short sayings are collected in the word and quote designs, and the lettering maker builds any name, such as your family's beach house, in the same formats. Stitch the wave or palm first, then the words underneath, and keep both in the same thread colors so they look like one design.
