Dinosaur embroidery designs

Dinosaur embroidery designs for little explorers: a cute T-rex, a stegosaurus with its back plates and baby dinosaurs hatching from eggs, all drawn in house in a friendly style. Download them free or premium as PES, JEF, EXP or VP3 files, or take the all-formats ZIP with the color sheet and the license.

On kids' tees, use a no-show mesh cut-away and a ballpoint needle so the dino stays smooth through rough play and many washes.

These dinosaur embroidery designs keep the shapes simple and the faces friendly, so they suit babies as well as older kids. The back plates of a stegosaurus and the belly of a T-rex are separate fills in a second color, which gives the shapes depth without shading. Green is the classic color, but the thread chart lists every color by name, so you can stitch the same dino in purple, pink or orange.

A 70 mm baby dino in an egg suits a bib or a newborn gift, a toddler tee takes the 95 mm T-rex, and a 125 mm stegosaurus fills the front of a backpack in a 5x7 hoop. You can also put them on pajamas, library bags, hooded towels and dinosaur party shirts.

Dragons share the same scales and spikes, so see the dragon designs as well. For a birthday tee with a cake or a number, combine a dinosaur with the birthday designs.

Frequently asked questions

How do I embroider a dinosaur on a kids' backpack?

Ready-made backpacks are bulky, so open a lining seam if you can, hoop a sticky or tear-away stabilizer and float the front panel on it. Turn the rest of the bag away from the needle and check that nothing is caught under the presser foot before you start. On a backpack you sew yourself, embroider the front panel before assembly.

Are dinosaur designs good for baby gifts?

Yes. A baby dinosaur hatching from an egg is a sweet birth gift on a bib, a burp cloth or a blanket. Choose soft colors such as mint, sage and peach, back the stitching with a soft fusible cover, and add the baby's name with the monogram and lettering maker.
