Woodland animal embroidery designs

Woodland animal embroidery designs with foxes, hedgehogs, owls, deer and squirrels, drawn in house in warm oranges, browns and greens. Free and premium woodland files come as PES, JEF, EXP, VP3 or DST, and the all-formats ZIP adds a color sheet.

On minky and flannel baby blankets, add a water-soluble topping so hedgehog spines and fox fur marks stay visible.

Forest creatures are a classic theme for baby quilts and fall projects, and these woodland animal embroidery designs suit both: a fox, a round hedgehog, a wide-eyed owl, a deer and a squirrel. The colors stay in a warm range of caramel, tan, cream, chocolate and forest green, so several animals look good side by side.

A row of quilt blocks looks balanced when every animal uses the same size, for example 95 mm in a 4x4 hoop, while a 125 mm fox suits a throw pillow on its own. Beyond the nursery, try them on flannel shirts, cozy blankets and fall table runners.

From September, combine them with the fall designs and the mushroom designs for a forest-floor set. Owls also appear among the bird designs.

Frequently asked questions

How do I embroider on a minky baby blanket?

Use a cut-away under the minky, because it stretches, and a water-soluble topping on top, so the stitches sit above the pile. Minky marks easily, so hoop only the stabilizer and stick the blanket to it with temporary spray adhesive or pins instead of clamping it. Brush the pile back into place once the topping is gone.

Which woodland animals go together in a nursery set?

A fox, an owl, a deer and a hedgehog make a classic set. Keep the same thread colors across all of them: the thread chart on each design page names every color, so you can match them before you start. Add a tree or a mushroom between the animals to fill a larger quilt.
