Horse embroidery designs

Horse embroidery designs for riders and horse lovers: horse heads, ponies, foals and horseshoes, drawn in house with a dark satin outline and warm browns. Horse files are free or premium and come in PES, JEF, EXP and VP3, plus DST for shops that run commercial machines.

Saddle pads and stable blankets are thick, so float them on a hooped stabilizer instead of clamping them in the hoop.

These horse embroidery designs cover the classics of stable life: horse heads, small ponies, young foals and horseshoes. The mane and forelock are satin lines over the head fill, which gives the hair a natural direction.

A 125 mm horse head fills the corner of a saddle pad, a 95 mm pony suits a child's riding sweatshirt, and a 70 mm horseshoe fits the pocket of a grooming bag. For the barn, think of tote bags, stable towels, fleece coolers and a thank-you gift for a riding instructor.

Horseshoes are simple shapes with few color changes, which makes them a good first project on a new machine. Before you start, the stitch-out animation on the design page plays the whole sewing order. Riding helmets, rosettes and show-jumping horses are in the equestrian designs, and young riders who would rather have a horn can choose from the unicorn designs.

Frequently asked questions

How do I embroider a horse design on a saddle pad?

Place the design on the lower back corner, where the saddle and the rider's leg do not cover it. Saddle pads are thick and quilted, so hoop a tear-away or cut-away, stick the pad to it with temporary spray adhesive and add a water-soluble topping if the surface is fluffy. Polyester thread copes with sweat and frequent washing.

Can I add my horse's name to a design?

Yes. Make the name in the monogram and lettering maker and stitch it below the horse head in the same hooping, so both stay aligned. Choose bold block letters for a saddle pad or a stable blanket that is seen from a distance, and a script style for a gift or a tote bag.
