Cactus & succulent embroidery designs

Cactus and succulent embroidery designs with potted cacti, aloe and echeveria rosettes in terracotta pots, drawn in house in sage, mint and forest greens. The free and premium cactus files come in PES, DST, JEF, EXP, VP3 and XXX, so Singer owners are included too.

Echeveria rosettes have many overlapping leaves, so hoop firmly: loose fabric lets the small outlines drift apart.

These cactus and succulent embroidery designs keep plants small and tidy: round and tall cacti in terracotta pots, a spiky aloe and the stacked leaves of an echeveria rosette. Spines are drawn as chunky dots and short lines rather than hairlines, so they stitch cleanly. Where rosette leaves overlap, their outlines are tucked under each other in tiers, which keeps the center neat.

A 70 mm potted cactus fits a shirt pocket or a baby bodysuit, while a 125 mm aloe suits a canvas tote bag or a cushion. As gifts for plant lovers, they suit gardening aprons, desert-themed T-shirts and pencil cases.

A row of three small pots in different shapes makes a windowsill scene along the hem of a kitchen towel or across the bottom of a tote. Pair them with watering cans and seed packets from the gardening designs, or with suns and sunglasses from the summer designs.

Frequently asked questions

How do I embroider a cactus on a canvas tote bag?

Hoop only the front layer: turn the tote inside out or slide the hoop inside, so you do not stitch the bag shut. Heavy canvas holds a small cactus with a tear-away, while a large or dense design is safer on a cut-away. Clip the handles out of the way while the machine sews.

Which colors work best for cactus and succulent designs?

Greens show best on light, warm fabric such as white, cream, sand or blush pink, and less well on olive or khaki. On dark fabric, keep the dark outline but lighten the greens, for example to lime and mint. The thread chart on the design page names each color, so swapping is easy.
